What toys are suitable
Baby 0-6 months
Mobile, unbreakable mirror to look in, Pluche animals or rags to feel and look at, especially fabrics with a pattern are a hit. Rattles or squeezers so baby can find out how to make noise. Music box with a soft sound for when the baby goes to bed. Activity center or play blanket, bath toys that float and soft things with sounds & colours. As a gift for mum and newborn it is good to combine something functional with fun and for new mums there is of course treats like body creams and bath foams
6-12 months
A ball, push along or other toys that move. Music instruments like drums or a xylophone get a lot of attention. Fabric toys and blocks or rings. From 9 months it is great to give them wooden toys like wooden blocks and cars. Books with sounds and music and simple pictures and touch & feel. Hand puppets and dolls can also get a lot of laughs.
Toddler from 12 months to 2 years
Rocking horse, ride-on, walking /pull along toys. Trains, cars and pram to push. For adventure and learning there are shape sorters and spinning tops and the wooden blocks will stay favourite. To feel safe there are cuddle toys, dolls and comforters and different animals to make stories with. A lot of toddlers start to enjoy helping mum or dad with chores so a mini workbench with tools or a tea or baking set are great fun.
From 1 to 3 years
They love to sort things and use different animals, coloured blocks or letters but also cars or domino are being sorted to shape or colour. To relax they love play pillows, play houses/tents, puppet theatres and cuddly toys on the sofa. They love to copy adults and they like puzzles, instruments and games. To be creative they like to use clay or crayons and even paint and outside there are the tricycle, scooter, pram, ride-on cars and diggers. Great fun are also swings, sandpit and slide.
From 4 to 5 years
Outside getting rid of some energy on the balance bike, scooter and even skateboard/skates. In the garden there are games like bowling and croquet and they like to use their own tools like spades & buckets. Indoors there are big puzzles and shops or stalls and train sets and they love different costumes and role-playing games. Some absolutely love games so good ones are memory, snakes & ladders and dominoes.
